To enhance the sense of progression and achievement in Mars Horizon 2, I collaborated with the Game Design team to create illustrations representing each gameplay achievement, to generate Steam badges awarded to players. Each visual was thoughtfully designed to capture the theme, purpose, and significance of its associated achievement, transforming individual unlocks into meaningful moments of recognition.
By developing a cohesive visual language across the achievement system, these illustrations strengthen the connection between player objectives and rewards. The result is a more engaging and memorable experience, where each accomplishment feels like a meaningful milestone in the player’s journey.
Collaborating with Game Designers to Shape Achievement Icons
To create meaningful achievement icons for Mars Horizon 2, I collaborated with the game design team to better understand the purpose, challenges, and player moments behind each achievement. These discussions helped translate gameplay objectives into visual concepts that accurately represented the experience and value of each milestone.
Visualising Achievement Ideas Through Early Sketches
Early sketches were created as a collaborative tool to explore and communicate possible visual directions for the achievement system. These concepts supported discussions with game designers and other UX/UI designers, helping the team evaluate ideas, align on the purpose of each achievement, and define how each achievement could be visually represented.
From Sketches to Final Artwork
The final achievement icons were developed as flat illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, focusing on clarity, consistency, and visual recognition. The artwork was then refined in Adobe Photoshop, where additional details, texture, and finishing touches were applied to achieve a high-quality final result ready for implementation.
