Briefing

Spades is a traditional American game, and the demographic is African American mostly 30+ to 45+ years old.

We had a similar issue as the Euchre project, so, the game had some regular updates from other teams and it was difficult to maintain the same visual identity while it wasn't passing by us all the time.

Process

We've decided to make a Design System for the game, so all the buttons, interactions and mainly styling would be replicable through other teams in the company without needing a major pause on our team to verify it:


  • Benchmark good and practical Design Systems;
  • Lack of reference in the game industry;
  • Separate all the buttons, illustrations, interactions, animation styles, and IMP tips;
  • Documentation of all it in pages to facilitate search.

Results

The result was a full documentation of all the game in a Confluence page with subpages:


  • We give a name to this Design System "Jack of Spades" as the Spades cards are the most valued in the gameplay;
  • About 6 pages of documentation are separated into Intro, Typography, Colours & Gradients, Illustrations, Buttons, and Animations.
