Briefing

We're working on a Bet system for Spades Jogatina, which is gambling on the basis, that players like to show off while playing, and it is a very traditional American game, played mostly by African Americans. One of the most famous competitions is Stance Spades which brings NBA players to the event while people play to get the trophies.

We need to create a themed room for the game in which each one would have a price to enter (similar to poker games) and an entire fancy visual to bring players' attention.

Process

The process steps were:


  • Benchmark of other Casino games, and on American culture of the championship;
  • We've chosen the rings because they're very common in the American Premier Leagues of the NBA, NFL, and others;
  • Benchmark of NBA and NFL rings;
  • I've made a 3D version sketch of each ring, so would be easier to define where the diamonds and other features would appear;
  • We also shared a survey with possible names of the rooms through some Fake Door tests to understand what brings players' attention;
  • Rewdrawn on Figma with the glows, and colours we wanted to maintain the game style.

Results

The final version of the rings had:


  • A silver/blue colour to glow on the game screen;
  • Diamonds to bring the same essence of the NBA/NFL rings;
  • The names chosen through a survey were "Top Dallas, Miami Stakes, and New York Masters";
  • The rings also had spades symbols and different diamond shapes to represent each level (how much you pay to enter the room);
  • Patterns to each room, so while the player players the background would be themed with the city it was on the room, as Dallas has the Reunion Tower and the Bank of American building, Miami has the Yacht and Palms, and New York had the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty;
  • Various positions to help the coin transition on animations.
